Industrial HTS Induction Heating
Superconducting billet heaters utilizing REBCO coils to generate intense alternating magnetic fields for high-efficiency metal forging.
The Future of Heavy Metal Forging
Before metals like aluminum, copper, and steel can be extruded or forged into structural beams or industrial components, the large solid metal "billets" must be heated to extreme temperatures. Traditional gas-fired furnaces heat from the outside in, achieving at best 60% thermal efficiency while taking hours to penetrate the core of the metal.
Superconducting induction heating flips this paradigm entirely. By rotating a metal billet inside a high-strength DC magnetic field generated by REBCO coils (or conversely, exposing the billet to alternating fields), enormous eddy currents are induced directly inside the conductive metal itself.
-
Inside-Out Heating
The metal heats itself uniformly from the inside out, completely eliminating thermal gradients that cause surface cracking and micro-fractures in the final product.
-
Decarbonization Impact
Directly replaces fossil-fuel gas furnaces with an ultra-efficient electrical process, supporting heavy industry's transition to net-zero emissions.
